Customizing PCB Options

Selecting PCB Customization Options

pcb-spec

You can choose to either use standard PCB manufacturing specifications and be batched with other orders for a lower price, or choose to customize your PCB requirements.

By default, for our standard PCB specifications in either 2 or 4 layers, we batch together multiple orders into a single panel and you pay only a share of the materials cost relative to how much space you’re using. For this reason, you can’t specify a specific silkscreen color or soldermask color, and instead will get a PCB with some combination of our standard colors (most often red with white silkscreen, but any combination is possible including yellow silkscreen with clear soldermask).

If you need a specific combination or soldermask and silkscreen colors, or need a heavier copper weight, your design will incur a minimum PCB cost. This cost is equivalent to 20.25 square inches (514mm), which is the minimum size PCB panel we can order and process. If you can fit more PCBs within this minimum charge area, a warning icon will appear next to the Parts and Materials price display and mousing over it will inform you how many more PCBs you can order for the same PCB cost.

The only options which will trigger this minimum charge are:

  • Soldermask color
  • Silkscreen color
  • 2-oz Copper Weight
  • 6 or 8 layers
  • Custom PCB Thickness

Changing layers or copper weight will automatically update the stackup display on the screen to show the arrangement and thickness of each layer.

Silkscreen Color

You can select from any of the following silkscreen colors:

  • Any (use standard PCB specifications and avoid minimum charges)
  • Red
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Yellow
  • Black
  • White

Selecting a silkscreen color other than ‘any’ incurs a minimum PCB charge.

Soldermask Color

You can select from any of the following soldermask colors:

  • Any (use standard PCB specifications and avoid minimum charges)
  • Red
  • Green
  • Light Green
  • Matte Green
  • Blue
  • Yellow
  • Black
  • Matte Black
  • White
  • Extreme White
  • Dark Brown
  • Transparent

Selecting a soldermask color other than ‘any’ incurs a minimum PCB charge.

Copper Weight

You can select from 1oz or 2oz outer copper weight for your board. Changing to 2oz copper weight incurs a minimum PCB charge and disables extended manufacturing specifications, as we cannot produce 3mil traces with 2oz copper.

Manufacturing Type

The following manufacturing type options are available:

  • Standard
Use standard manufacturing specifications, with a minimum trace width of 5mil, minimum part size of 0402, and minimum drill of 12mil. There is no additional charge for choosing this option.
  • Extended
Decrease minimum trace sizes, annular rings, and edge clearance to 3mil and set a minimum part size of 0201. There is a one-time charge per order for selecting this option, which will be the same no matter how many boards you order.
  • Extended Drill
Decrease minimum drill size to 4mil. There is a one-time charge per order for selecting this option, which will be the same no matter how many boards you order.

You can combine both extended and extended drill, with two one-time charges per order. As long as you are ordering a 2 or 4 layer board, with no customization of silkscreen, soldermask, or copper pour weight, you will not be charged a minimum PCB cost.

Impedance Control

Selecting this option enables impedance control for your order. You may be asked to provide additional information when this option is selected.

Selecting impedance control on will add a one-time charge per order, which will be the same no matter how many boards you order.

PCB Thickness

Selecting this option allows you to specify the thickness of your PCB, in 0.01mm increments, from 0.2mm to 6.3mm.  Note that each layer count has a minimum thickness, and 0.2mm will only be supported on 2-layer PCBs.

Customizing the PCB thickness incurs a minimum PCB charge, and increasing the thickness beyond the standard thickness for the current layer count will incur a one-time charge for additional materials.
